Second medal for the Spanish delegation in the World Athletics Championships in Oregon. And he did it in one of the fetish tests in Spain: the 1,500, one of the tests that has given the most success to national athletics. Mohamed Katir has achieved a brilliant bronze medal in a frenetic final where he stopped the clock in 3’29”90, with Mario García as luxury lieutenant, fourth with 3’30”20 (third Spanish of all time), in his first World Cup final.
The victory went to Jake Wightman, who with a time of 3’29”23 became the first European to win the 1,500 in a World Championship since his compatriot Steve Cram did it in 1983. Jakob Ingebrigtsen came close to winning ( 3’29”47) but could not repeat the gold he won at the Tokyo Olympics last year.
