Katia Castillo a promise of judo in Edomex – La Jornada Estado de México

Katia Castillo Bustos is a judoka of the State of Mexico that has represented the entity, the highest house of studies and the country in this discipline obtaining important triumphs.

Castillo began practicing sports when she was 13 years old, thanks to the encouragement of her brother, since then she began to stand out in different competitions that have led her to represent the country.

Currently in the under 21 category, he has participated in different competitions in the 63 kg and 70 kg category, he already has international honors since 2019, most of them in the Junior Pan American Games where he managed to place in the top 10 during the first participation, in in 2020 he took second position and by 2021 he came in fifth place.

In turn, he has managed to break through at the national level, his last competition was awarded the bronze medal within the 63 kilograms at the National Universiade that was held in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua last May.

Despite the pandemic, 2021 has been his best year, where he had a presence in different competitions, which was difficult to overcome due to the pandemic.

“Due to the pandemic, everything got complicated, but we always work from home. I am fortunate that my brother also practices judo, so we were able to train peer to peer,” Castillo said.

The woman from Mexico dreams of reaching the Olympic Games.

However, he confesses that it will be difficult to do it for the fair in Paris, due to the weather.

“My dream is to reach the Olympic Games, perhaps in this process of Paris 2024 I will not be able to do it, but hopefully in 2028 we can achieve it.«

«but first you have to go to several international tournaments, score points by being on the podium and finish the cycle in the first 30”, said the judoka.

Currently there is constant preparation in the National Sports Talent Development Center and High Performance (CNAR), in Mexico City, with the aim of adding to national fairs to find opportunities in fairs of international stature.
