Judoka Julia Figueroa wins a silver podium at the Budapest Grand Slam

Olympic judoka Julia Figueroa began her fight to be in the 2024 Games by winning a silver medal at the Budapest Grand Slam in the -48 kilos weight. The Cordovan thus achieved an important loot of points in the first scoring of her to be in two years at the Olympic event in Paris.

The woman from Cordoba, who is 10th in the world, began her participation in the Magyar capital by defeating Mauricio Priscila Morand’s representative by a clear ippon. The difficult fight against the Mongolian representative Narantsetseg Ganbaatar ended with another undisputed victory.

The athlete trained in the Kodokán Córdoba club beat the Chinese Zongying Gijo in the semifinals, a victory that ensured her an important medal in her record. Only the Japanese Funa Tonaki, number 9 in the world, avoided victory dand the cordovan in the competition held in Hungary.

Julia Figueroa thus added her third podium this year in a top-level international competition. She first won bronze in February at the Tel-Aviv Grand Slam. She subsequently repeated third place in April at the European Championships in Sofia, an event in which she won her second medal in an absolute European championship. Until now, she counts her participation in international tests in the weight of -48 kilos for her medals.
