SANTO DOMINGO. The Dominican Republic will be represented by the men’s and women’s superior judo teams at the Zagreb Grand Prix, Croatia, which will award points for qualifying for the Olympic Games Paris, France, 2024.

The Zagreb Grand Prix, whose competitions will take place this Saturday and Sunday, distributed the program of clashes in the first qualifying round.

The participation of Quisqueyan judokas in the tournament is possible with the support of the Creating Olympic Dreams Group (Creso) and the International Judo Federation (FJI).

In women, Estefanía Soriano will face Tamar Malca, from Israel, in less than 48 kilos; Ana Rosa, in less than 57 kilos, will fight with Mina Libeer, from Belgium; Ariela Sánchez goes against Laura Fazliu, from Kosovo, in minus 63 kilos; Eiraima Silvestre will be in minus 78 kilos, and Moira Morillo, in more than 78 kilos, will face the winner of the match between Raz Hershko, from Israel, and Kinga Welszczak, from Poland.

In the men’s division, Antonio Tornal, in minus 73 kilos, will fight against Yorlan Serikzhanov, from Kazakhstan; Medickson del Orbe, in minus 81 kilos, will collide with the German Timo Cavelius, while Robert Florentino, in minus 90, will face Yersultan Muzapparov, from Kazakhstan, and José Nova, in more than 100 kilos, will fight against Andy Granda, from Cuba.

The participation of the nine athletes from Quito in the Zagreb Grand Prix is ​​part of the preparation program carried out by the Dominican Judo Federation (Fedojudo) with a view to participating in future events, including the senior championship that will take place in September. next in the handball pavilion of the Parque del Este.

In addition to the athletes, the delegation is made up of coaches Wilkin Ogando and Wander Mateo. At the Zagreb Judo Grand Prix there will be a total of 503 judokas, including 288 men and 215 women, coming from 69 nations from five continents.
