Jiu Jitsu at the World Games: martial arts as a family affair

The Fuhrmann sisters are the only ones from Austria who were considered for the Jiu-Jitsu competitions in the USA. There are currently no medal candidates outside of the Fuhrmann family.

The World Games are the international games for those sports that are not (yet) Olympic. Hopes for Jiu Jitsu are limited. Lisa Fuhrmann thinks that’s a shame: “The goal of every athlete would be the Olympics, but because judo is too similar, there’s not really a chance.” But she’s happy that the World Games are now getting more attention. “When Dad was there in 1997, hardly anyone knew what kind of competition it was. It’s different today.” Father Ferdinand Fuhrmann coaches Anna and Lisa and can see the differences for himself.
