Jeremy Bokila will stay with Willem II until the end of the season. The attacker has been training since June 23 and played in three friendlies. Based on his demonstrated qualities and conversations, the club and Bokila have agreed a one-year contract. ‘I want to show myself to the people who have forgotten me or don’t even know me.’

Bokila (33) will definitely return to the Dutch fields in Tilburg. Since his departure from Sparta in 2012, Bokila has traveled the world. He was under contract in Russia, Turkey, China, Romania, Qatar and the United States. ‘That was quite an adventure, yes. I am someone who likes to grab an opportunity to experience something new with both hands. But when Willem II came forward, I was like: finally to the Netherlands, back home,” says Bokila, who was twice active at the Africa Cup as an international from Congo.

More complete striker
The many experiences he gained in different countries made him a more complete striker. ‘In the feet, in the barrel, through the air, I don’t really care how the balls get in front of the goal. I am now 33 years old and have played football in all kinds of systems. Because of those experiences I now know what to do in which situation. And I grew up with Dutch football, so 4-3-3 like Willem II suits me anyway.’ The striker understands that the name Bokila does not ring many bells. ‘That’s also why I want to show myself again to the people who have forgotten me or don’t even know me.’

Fitter and sharper
Bokila, born in Congo and raised in the Achterhoek, has recently gotten a good impression of the club. ‘I am happy and easy to adapt to new situations. The fact that the people at Willem II have received me so warmly makes it even easier to feel at ease. With many young, eager guys around me and tough training sessions in preparation, I am also getting fitter and sharper. I have often missed that abroad. Nowhere is football as nice as here in the Netherlands’, says Bokila, who will wear number 18.

Technical director Teun Jacobs. “Jeremy is a good lad to have with the group. He is very experienced, has been through a lot and therefore remains calm in every situation and knows what to do.’
