Jannik Sinner: “After every loss, I don’t sleep”

the italian tennis player Jannik Sinner gave a few words to the newspaper Republicca to analyze everything that surrounds him and more specifically for that defeat suffered against Novak Djokovic a few weeks ago at Wimbledon. Could Sinner have had a chance of winning the tournament if he had beaten Nole?

– Be the best Italian in the ranking:

“Being the Italian number one in the ranking means absolutely nothing. It’s just a fact. Berrettini hasn’t had any luck this year and Musetti is in good shape. He’s coming off a win in Hamburg. Italy has a lot of different players, but they’re all excellent. We can say that we are a power. I don’t think that Berrettini and I have a rivalry, far from it. We have never played an official match before. We are two very calm boys who give everything every time they step onto a tennis court. It is true that Berrettini has more experience, he has won more things and he has been in the top ten longer than me. I am sure he will return to his highest level. I don’t know him very well, but we have a very good relationship.”

– Feelings after his loss to Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon:

“Every time I lose a match, I don’t sleep. After the match I immediately reviewed the highlights. I want to learn immediately. I take a lot of positive things from Wimbledon. I gained experience on grass and played against Novak Djokovic on Center Court. I did a good match. I have the thorn of not having pressed a little more in the third and fourth sets. In the fifth set I couldn’t do anything. I had a monster on the other side of the court. He deserved the win”.

– If you had beaten Djokovic… could you have become champion at Wimbledon?

“It’s difficult to say. I could have had my options, I was playing well… I would have had a chance, but anyway, I have to say that in every tournament I play I play to win. Obviously what I achieved at Wimbledon gave me a lot of confidence , after the injuries and the bad luck I’ve had this season”.

– The importance of Simone Vagonozzi and Darren Cahill in his team:

“Simone is very good technically and tactically. On the other hand, Cahill has much more experience. He has shown it with people like Agassi or Halep. He knows tennis very well. He is good at motivating you before matches. I owe a lot to both for being with me in my team”, he concluded.
