Iñaki Williams (Athletic Bilbao) will no longer represent Spain but Ghana

While his only cap with Spain dates from 2016 in a friendly match, Athletic Bilbao striker Iñaki Williams has decided to no longer represent La Roja.

Iñaki Williams (28 years old) will he go to the World Cup? The question seemed crazy, because the Spanish international had so far only one selection, which dated from 2016 in a friendly match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Since then, the Athletic Bilbao striker had not even been called up. But Williams should indeed go to Qatar, as a trump card…from Ghana, the country of his parents.

The Basque has indeed decided to abandon La Roja to represent the Black Stars, as he announced via his networks. “The time has come for me to rediscover my origins, Africa and Ghana which mean so much to me and my family,” he explains. And what better time to do so than as Ghana qualified for the 2022 World Cup. Iñaki Williams played 42 games, scored 8 goals and provided 6 assists last season for Bilbao. He should be one of the offensive masters of his new selection.
