In one of the women’s semi-finals of Wimbledon, the favorite of the tournament Jabir and Ostapenko’s abuser Maria will meet – Tennis

Marija, who is ranked 103rd in the WTA, defeated her compatriot Jūli Nīmaieri (WTA 97th) with the result 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 in the quarter-final match between two unseeded tennis players.

The 34-year-old Maria will play in the semifinals of a “Grand Slam” tournament for the first time in her career. Since 1984, only four tennis players outside the top 100 have been able to enter the semi-finals of the Wimbledon Championship – in 1999 Mirjana Lucic (WTA 134th at the time), in 2008 Jen Jie (WTA 133rd) and in 2018 Serena Williams (WTA 181st).

In the round of 16, Marija stopped the Latvian tennis player Aļona Ostapenko.

In the meantime, the second racket of the planet Jabera, who is the favorite to win after the loss of Iga Šviontek, beat the Czech Marija Bouzkova (WTA 66) in the quarterfinals with the result 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.

This is also the first Grand Slam semi-final in her career for Jabere. Previously, she reached the quarterfinals twice.

Among African tennis players, only South African tennis player Yvonne Fermāka, who did it in 1983, has previously reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon.

The third “Grand Slam” tournament of the season – the Wimbledon Championship – will take place until July 10.
