“When I lifted the Stanley Cup and saw myself in the reflection of the cup, it was something I can’t even describe,” he beams with joy.

“It’s like a drug. You want it more and more, you want to experience it one more time. I think we will have a strong team next year as well. There will be a chance for defense. To win it one more time would be a great feeling,” the Pilsen native is clear.

Tampa celebrated the previous two years together with Ondřej Palát and Jan Rutta. But this time they experienced a feeling of sadness.

“When I saw him play, I was proud of the fact that he is Czech and that he is making such a name for our hockey. At the same time I told him that I was happy for our triumph. After all, someone other than them can finally caress the cup,” he laughs.

When one of the players has the famous cup at his disposal, sometimes bizarre stories happen. The celebration replica has been through a lot.

“When I saw him play, I was proud of the fact that he is Czech and that he is making such a name for our hockey.”

“I saw that the boys ate gnocchi, oatmeal or goulash, but I don’t know what I would put there,” smiles the 32-year-old goalkeeper, who did not eat any of it.

“I have great respect for the cup. Look, that’s a piece of hockey history. Just holding it is a huge honor. I approach it as if I were holding my own child,” answers the goalkeeper, who played in 21 games in the regular season and made seven appearances in the playoffs.

After the celebrations, his teammate Erik Johnson told him that it was the Czech goalkeeper who dragged the whole celebrations the most.

“I didn’t expect that,” the Frenchman responds with a laugh. “I wouldn’t say I was the most drunk, but the fastest,” he explains.

“I wouldn’t say I was the most drunk, but the fastest.”

Then he was able to enjoy a celebratory ride through Colorado, where the whole town was alive with this success.

“It was unbelievable. When you drive through the streets in the center and you see the amount of people… Everyone was shouting at the top of their lungs. It was a great experience and I was happy that the family could be there. When I saw the footage from the plane, it looked like one big anthill,” he recalls.

There were over half a million fans at the mentioned celebrations.

The Frenchman then added a story about his dad, who helped him a lot in life and wanted his son to succeed.

“When he was behind me in the season in Colorado, we played nine home games and won them all. When the playoffs started, I asked him if he wanted to come.”

“Mom sent him off and said, Go over there and take care of it.”

And it worked. The goalkeeper, who also played in the first league in Třebíč, Tábor or Ústí nad Labem, eventually worked his way up through the extra league and the KHL to the NHL and this year celebrated the most valuable hockey trophy…

Next year, he will fight for the number one position in Colorado. He’ll have a chance, his partner
