Just a couple of weeks before the 2022 world championship season, Herlings suffered a foot injury that prevented him from competing. Already in May, the athlete sat on a motorcycle, but did not feel well enough to start thinking about returning. It was decided that both legs would undergo surgery and he would miss the rest of the season.
It has become known that Herlings has applied to participate in the upcoming “Keiheuvel International” motocross competition in Belgium, which will take place on August 15. “Gatedrop.com” reports that whether the driver will be in the lineup depends on whether he feels ready to start at that moment. If all goes according to plan, Herlings could also take part in the final three rounds of MXGP.
Since 2010, Herlings represents the Red Bull KTM factory team. He won three titles in the MX2 class, but twice, in 2018 and 2021, he achieved titles in the MXGP class. He currently has 99 victories and is only two more away from the all-time record.
At the moment, behind the scenes, there is also hope that Herlings could be ready to compete in the Motocross of Nations held in the USA in September, representing the Dutch team. It is still too early to say whether it will be.
