The German Handball Federation (DHB) is looking for a new venue for the home EM 2024. Because the SAP Garden in Munich, which is still under construction, will not be completed in time for the tournament, which will take place from January 12th to 28th, 2024, the Association of Alternatives in the Bavarian capital. The arena was intended as one of six venues at the European Championship. “We will talk to the European association EHF and Olympiapark GmbH whether the Olympic Hall can be considered as an alternative hall,” said DHB CEO Mark Schober. Advance ticket sales for Munich have been stopped for the time being. The SAP Garden will offer space for 11,500 spectators and will be the new home ground of EHC Red Bull Munich and the Bundesliga basketball team FC Bayern. The forecast for completion was postponed on Friday due to “delivery bottlenecks and a shortage of skilled workers”, and the opening is now planned for spring 2024.
