In the Serie A baseball group E1 of Poule salvation, the matches of the 1st and 2nd day of the second round were played between Saturday and Sunday (2 and 3 July). Below we propose the results, the ranking for the next round and our personal comment.
Since this is a salvation poule, let’s start our comment by talking about the fight to avoid sixth position and with it the play outs that in the event of a defeat would determine the relegation to Serie B 2023.
It was an extremely positive turn for our Platform-Tmc which had to face a Brescia galvanized by the previous victories of Cervignano and had to dispose of its disappointment for the previous defeats in Rovigo; all this had significantly shortened the ranking since from the third to the sixth position the distance races had become only two, against the four of the previous week. Even our Platform-Tmc, therefore, could not sleep peacefully, despite its ranking situation being the best in the quartet of teams that also included Cervignano, Senago and the revived Brescia. Well, with a test of character, the Povigliese team has dispelled all doubts and defeated Brescia in both matches. In this way he brought his advantage back to 4 on the back of the ranking still made up of Brescia and Senago (which was simultaneously defeated by Rovigo). In reality, the advantage over Brescia is 5 games if we also consider the 4-0 in head-to-head matches.
Who can consider the one that has just passed a positive round, always with a view to salvation, is also Cervignano who in the derby with Rochi dei Legionari took home a success in race one and thus increased their advantage over Senago from one to two races. and Brescia.
Moving on to the situation at the top of the standings, Rovigo is the team that has had the greatest benefit from the days just played as they defeated Senago while their rival Ronchi was stopped on a draw. Now these two teams (Ronchi and Rovigo) are paired at the top of the standings and will continue their fight for the victory of the group, a prestigious event and also useful for two reasons. First of all, the victory of the group gives the right to be considered seeded in the formulation of the groups of the next championship, with the theoretical advantage of being inserted in a slightly less difficult group as it is occupied by only one other seed. Secondly, the first position in the classification of this salvation poule assigns the 4th classified of another group as an opponent in the first round of the Italian Cup, while the 2nd assigns a theoretically more competitive 3rd classified as opponent.
Theoretically, current numbers in hand, even our Platform-Tmc could have some chance to try to fight for the first two positions of the ranking (from which it is only two races away with 8 games still to be played); more cautiously, however, here in Poviglio we prefer to look over our shoulders again until the mathematical achievement of salvation that we still do not take for sure.
In the next round, the most important race is the one that will see Cervignano and Senago opposing each other. The Friulian team will have the opportunity to break away decisively from the lower parts of the standings and leave Senago and Brescia to compete alone in the final sprint to avoid the play outs. Conversely, the Senago will have to do everything possible to drag Cervignano down, add points to their ranking and possibly detach Brescia if the latter does not obtain a positive result on the difficult field of Rovigo. Brescia, on the other hand, must absolutely obtain at least one victory in Rovigo to hope again and not to be last alone in the standings should the Senago score points. Time is running out …
