Governor of Risaralda praised international medalists

Pereira, July 14, 2022.

The Governor of Risaralda, Víctor Manuel Tamayo Vargas promoted a recognition meeting for athletes who have played the Colombian anthem 15 times internationally.

With a note of style and a Breed of Champions detail, the meeting was held on July 14 in his office, where 16 of the 24 highlighted athletes arrived.

It is that with their talent, sacrifice and dedication they have contributed to Colombia 15 gold, 12 silver and 8 bronze medals so far in 2022. A figure that has on the radar of the different Colombian teams, the athletes of the department.

Among the exalted are the Olympic boxer Jenny Marcela Arias, the goalkeeper Sara López, the bowler Jaime González, the Para athlete Leonardo Varón and the volleyball player Laura Zapata.

All stood out in events of international stature, where the Pan American Championships, Bolivarian Games and World Games stand out.

“We cannot let go unnoticed extolling people who make Risaralda look very good, in this particular case our athletes who have had the opportunity to make an excellent representation of the department of Risaralda in national and international fairs, and we have awarded a distinction to each of those athletes who have achieved gold, silver or bronze medals in very important events in competitive matters, added also to an economic stimulus that what it means is the great pride we feel as Risaraldenses for the excellent representation” Governor Víctor Manuel Tamayo Vargas shared.

Jenny Marcela Arias, Olympic boxer, highlighted the Governor’s gesture for highlighting high achievements:

“The truth is that I am very happy because since I have been an athlete, it is the first time that we have come with great results at an international level and the Governor is willing to take his time to dedicate himself to us.”

Sara López, world multi-medallist thanked, since she affirms that these details are important for athletes, taking into account that they come from a pandemic with very difficult challenges.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s a little or a lot, the point is that our achievements are recognized because it hasn’t been easy for any of us; As the Governor said, there have been very difficult times, the issue of the pandemic where athletes have lost family and friends, not being able to travel, losing performance; but here we are and continue to proudly represent Risaralda and Colombia”.

The Government of Risaralda currently supports 230 athletes through the Supported Athlete program, immersed in the development plan. In 2022, the amount invested in this program alone amounts to $1,259,000,000.

In the same way, as complementary support, the administration has supported 34 leagues, and the maintenance of the modern Unit of Sciences Applied to Sports, UCAD, with a biomedical person at the service of athletes.

The athletes will finally receive an economic incentive for their international achievements.

Fact: athletes who could not attend, are representing the country in international competitions.
