for Corinne Deacon, “perseverance paid off”

The coach of Les Bleues commented on the qualification of her troops for the semi-finals of the competition against the Netherlands (1-0).

Corinne Deacon, the coach of the France team, confided her feelings, at the microphone of Canal +, after the qualification in the semi-finals of the Euro obtained at the expense of the Netherlands (1-0 after extra time): “I obviously feel a lot of satisfaction. And then I’m relieved, because my players gave a lot too, and we still came up against an exceptional (Dutch) goalkeeper this evening. The girls didn’t give up and I think it’s beautiful, it’s good.»

For her, this success puts an end to five consecutive eliminations in the quarter-finals in a major international competition: “We didn’t think about it, very honestly, it’s you with the statistics… It’s part of the history of the Federation. It’s true but it didn’t belong to us, to today’s group. We had no reason to dwell on this negative point which could have made us flinch in this match. We persevered despite everything, and tonight’s perseverance paid off, and the team that attacked the most was rewarded. Now, that’s just one step taken. We will recover. When you win, you recover much faster than when you lose. We will do what it takes.»
