Final point in the history of the Costa Brava

Girona football has definitely been left without one of the benchmarks of recent times. He Badalona has made official the absorption of the Costa Bravaantic Lobsterwhich abandons any link with the demarcation to pass by Badalona Future. The agreement, presented between the three parties and the intermediary Tony Freixastages the disappearance of the historic Girona entity that arrived at Second Division A in 2014. The hitherto Costa Brava therefore becomes the new first team of Badalona and will compete in Second Federation with the name of Badalona Futur. A Third Federació will be the Badalona of all life, which was relegated last year and which this year will be its subsidiary. The deal comes after the family alsineTarragona has sold the shares of the Costa Brava to a group of businessmen from Badalona through the intermediation of Toni Freixa. The lawyer and ex-candidate in the last elections of the Barça becomes CEO and shareholder of Badalona Futur. Despite completely disassociating himself from the management area, Oriol Alsina will be the coach of the team with Oscar Alvarez right hand next to him. In addition, Lucas Avenue, will continue as sports director, a position he already held at the Costa Brava. Even some players from last season with a contract in force could land in the new Badalona.

Badalona has explained in a statement that it is the “commercial procedure for the first SAE (Badalona) to absorb the second (Costa Brava)” and change its name to Badalona Futur. “This procedure will conclude in the coming months with the acquisition by CF Badalona SAD of all the assets of CF Badalona Futur SAD”, he adds. The last step will be effective from next season (2023-24) when the absorption will be total.

After transforming the UE Llagostera into the UE Costa Brava last summer, the non-arrival of the revenues expected by the Federation caused the club’s largest shareholders, Oriol Alsina and Isabel Tarragó, to try to transfer the entity to the Barcelona businessman Carlos Sanchez. The agreement, however, was never finalized and the Girona team found themselves with a new problem at the end of the season, apart from relegation to the Second Federation. The Costa Brava had a debt with the staff of more than 40,000 euros which endangered the future of the club. The solution to wipe it out was provided by some entrepreneurs from Badalona, who took charge of it and, what’s more, they ended up staying with the club after two months of negotiations.

The owners of Badalona have publicly presented all the details about the “union” agreement with Costa Brava, which entails the disappearance of the Girona club and which now bears the name of Badalona Futur. The press conference was chaired by the president of Badalona, Miguel Angel Sanchez; Oriol Alsina; lawyer Toni Freixa, who is the CEO and shareholder of Badalona Futur; and the coach of the now subsidiary, Santi Alvarez. “For federal and commercial reasons, from the 2023-24 season there will be only one entity: CF Badalona SAE. We tried to recover the category (2nd Federation) that we lost. We want to start a big project in Badalona and we are happy that there was the option because there were other possibilities. We will take care of two budgets, but we will never be able to buy the sentiment of the supporters”, said Sánchez. “Both entities express their immense satisfaction for the achievement of the agreement, and for the launch of a project of such ambition and magnitude that should bring the city and its football fans many joys in the coming years coming and which will surely place Badalona at the level it deserves”, concludes the statement. With everything closed and agreed, next Wednesday’s assembly in Llagostera will be a simple procedure that will confirm the total disappearance of historic Llagostera.
