Ecuador and Switzerland will play their Davis Cup World Group I series in Salinas

Guayaquil (Ecuador), Jul 5 (EFE).- The Ecuadorian and Swiss tennis teams will meet for World Group I of the Davis Cup on the asphalt court of the Ecuadorian tourist resort of Salinas between September 17 and 18.

The president of the Ecuadorian Tennis Federation (FET), Danilo Carrera, said that the choice of venue was adopted at the request of the Davis Cup team captain, Raúl Viver, because the players feel comfortable on that surface.

In 2012, the Davis Cup series between Ecuador and Colombia was played at the Salinas Golf and Tennis Club. It also hosted the series with Venezuela in February 1999 and April 2003. As well as against Argentina, also in April 1999.

On September 17, two singles matches will be played from 12:00 p.m. (17:00 GMT), and on the 18th from 10:00 a.m. (15:00 GMT) doubles and the other two singles will be played.

The draw ceremony for the matches will take place on September 16.

Ecuador and Switzerland met in 2013 when they were looking for a place in the World Group, with the Swiss triumphing 4-1 in a series they reached after matches against Chile and the Czech Republic, respectively.

On that occasion, Ecuador, led by Raúl Viver, presented youngsters such as Julio César Campozano, Emilio Gómez, Roberto Quiróz and Gonzalo Escobar; while Switzerland to Stanislas Wawrinka, Marco Chiudinelli, Henri Laaksonen and Michael Lammer, led by Severin Luthi.

According to the FET, for the series next September, Ecuador will present Gómez, Quiróz and Escobar, who have been joined by Diego Hidalgo. Between July 9 and 13 there will be a selective to define the fifth member among Andrés Andrade, Ángel Díaz, Mateo Larrea, Omar Suárez, Gian Rodríguez, Jhon Moncada and Juan Diego Rojas.
