Duplantis and Amusan, with new world records, put the icing on the cake at Eugene 2022

Sweden’s Armand Duplantis, who won his first pole vault world title with a world record, and Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan, winner of the 100m hurdles and with the best record in the world in the semi-finals, put the icing on the world d ‘athletics from Eugene, Oregon.

Duplantis signed a great jump of 6’21m, surpassing his own previous record by 0’01m and thus achieving the title that was still missing in his legendary career despite being only 22 years old.

The other big star of the closing ceremony was Amusan, who won the world title in the 100m hurdles and set the new world record with a mark of 12’12s in the semi-finals. Despite not being one of the favourites, the Nigerian had beaten her own mark in the final (12’06s), but she had achieved this time with the help of an illegal wind of 2.5 meters per second, for which was not valid for the record.

Likewise, the USA closed its first world championships with first place in both the men’s and women’s 4x400m relays. This also allowed Allyson Felix to raise her medals in the history of these world championships to 20, completing the legend. With 13 golds, 9 silvers and 11 bronzes, the Americans finished atop the medal table, ahead of Ethiopia, Jamaica and Kenya (10 metals).

In the 5,000 metres, Ingebrigtsen went fer l’or in 13:09’84.
