Sindelfingen/Döbeln. The three Döbeln women Lucy Joelle Wetzig, Sarah and Anna Lorenz drew attention to themselves with good results at the 20th International Judo Cup Tournament in the Glaspalast Sindelfingen.

“According to the organizer, 1700 participants from 17 countries were registered in the six age groups for this tournament. These numbers alone speak for the level of the tournament,” said coach Jens Wetzig.

From a Döbelner point of view, Lucy Joelle Wetzig had to be the first to start the tournament. 14 participants competed in their weight class. Her first opponent was the Swiss Lüthi. After a short palpation of the two and a throw attempt by Lucy, it went into the ground, where Lucy defeated her opponent with a hold.

Started in the consolation round

In the second fight, Lucy faced Kolczonay from the Netherlands. Both tried to throw the other, but neither of them was successful and after the first 3 minutes of fighting it went into overtime. Lucy was countered by the Dutchwoman with a sacrificial throw and landed on her back.

Lucy slipped into the consolation round and faced Iana Prituleac from Giessen. Using an opponent’s throw approach, Lucy uses it to lay the opponent in the ground and defeat her with a hold. Lucy was thus in the small final for third place. Here the Swiss Koster was waiting for you. Lucy was also able to add two ratings in this fight and was happy about third place.

Sarah Lorenz started in the U 21 age group. The weight class +70 kg was occupied by only three women. In addition, Sarah was the lightest in the group at 700 grams over the 70 kilograms. Her first opponent, the obviously much heavier Arjana Kodra from Bietigheim, knew how to use her weight and defeated Sarah after a throw in detention.

Happy coach

In the second fight, Sarah Lorenz competed against Anna-Lena Brengel from Uchtelfang. Brengel also took the lead straight away. Sarah, however, was not discouraged by this. Her opponent had to accept three penalties as the fight progressed, which meant victory and second place for Sarah.

Anna Lorenz had a much harder time with the large number of participants of 41 athletes in her weight class. In the first fight, Anna got the first win on the ground with a choke and her opponent’s submission.

In the second fight, shortly before the end, Anna wanted to equalize a Waza-ari lead from her opponent, Salome Steinebrunner from Heitersheim, and put everything on one card. However, she was countered and had to admit defeat. That was the end of the competition for Anna with eleventh place. “The three girls did well in this big tournament and represented Döbelner SC worthy,” said coach Jens Wetzig. (DA/dsc)
