The Danish mixed double Alexandra Bøje / Mathias Christiansen misses the Super 750 final in Malaysia. The Chinese Zheng Si Wei / Huang Ya Qiong became too big a mouthful for the Danish couple, who had to be beaten by the Chinese in the semifinals 18-21, 8-21. Despite the defeat, according to national coach Kenneth Jonassen, the Danes can be proud of themselves, because they have delivered a great game in the tournament.

There will be no super 750 final in Malaysia for the Danish mixed doubles pair Alexandra Bøje and Mathias Christiansen.

It’s a fact after they were defeated on Saturday morning by Chinese Zheng Si Wei / Huang Ya Qiong 18-21, 8-21.

It started otherwise so well for the Danes, who in the first set gave the Chinese resistance and the two pairs followed well together.

– Alexandra and Mathias play a good first set at a high level. They challenge the Chinese and they execute the agreements and presentations that have been made, says Danish national coach Kenneth Jonassen.

Despite the Danish mixed double playing at a high level in the first set, it was the Chinese who won the set 18-21.

In the second set, the Chinese showed their best side, which made it difficult for the Danes.

– In the second set, the Chinese show themselves from their very best side and put nothing wrong. The Chinese control the server situation, where they vary the servers really nicely and then they set a really high pace from the start. These things make us late for the balls and make it difficult for us to get into the duel. While the Chinese quickly gain confidence and calm, Alexandra and Mathias become frustrated and unsure of how to win points, it sounds from the national coach after the Danes’ defeat to the world setters.

Although the Danes did not manage to play in the super 750 final in Malaysia, they can look back on a great tournament with good victories, says Kenneth Jonassen.

– Overall, it has been a super good tournament for Alexandra and Mathias. They can be really proud of their game and this tournament, says Kenneth Jonassen and points out that especially the victory over Japanese Watanabe/Higashino and the subsequent matches show that they are a good place.

– The match in the first round against Watanabe / Higashino is the big victory for them at this tournament. But the fact that they subsequently execute so well against some difficult couples, it shows me and everyone else that they are a good place in their development, it sounds from Kenneth Jonassen.
