The Washington Commanders will be without one of the best defensive players when they open their season on September 11 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

On Friday, head coach Ron Rivera said defensive end Chase Young won’t be recovered enough from his serious right knee injury to play. The pilot also indicated that his star player could miss other clashes at the start of the campaign.

“You [les médias] want me to give you a date. I can’t give you a date, said Rivera, whose remarks were reported by the ESPN network. I don’t want to put pressure on the young man and try to be back on the date I told you.”

“It was a very serious injury, continued the head coach. He does everything he has to do. He is where he should be according to the doctors.

Young was seriously injured in a November matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In nine games, he had 26 tackles, 1.5 quarterback sacks, defended two passes and forced two fumbles.

The previous season, the Ohio State Buckeyes product was named NFL Most Outstanding Freshman.
