Cameron Tringale starts with the course record!

American Cameron Tringale starts the Genesis Scottish Open, counting for the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour, with a record score of -9 (61) to settle firmly in the lead after the first round. The French are struggling…

The Genesis Scottish Open managed to attract fourteen of the world’s top fifteen players (only Rory McIlroy misses) to put on a magnificent show in Scotland, a week before the start of The Open at St. Andrews, the last major of the season. The stars of the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour were particularly expected for a promising confrontation. But it is a 44-year-old American, who has never won on the PGA Tour and who is just flirting with the world’s top 50, who pulled out all the stops with the Renaissance course record, near Edinburgh . Cameron Tringale was impressive with a card of 61 (-9). It’s the best card of his career… in 1058 laps on the PGA Tour! And again, the Californian had a margin since he only played -1 on all three par 5s of the day!

The top 15 in the world in difficulty

Gary Woodland is second by three lengths (-6), thanks to an eagle at 3 and a chip-in for birdie at 18. The South African Justin Harding took advantage of the mild conditions in the early hours of the morning to settle on the podium with a card of 65 (-5). Among the fourteen members of the top 15, only Sam Burns (-3), Jon Rahm, Jordan Spieth et Cameron Smith (-2) played under par on Thursday. The American world number one Scottie Scheffler is content with 91st place (+3).

Fitzpatrick back with new status

Matthew Fitzpatrick has been making a comeback since his title at the US Open. The 27-year-old Englishman was also beaten by the course (+1), as was the American leader of the DP World Tour Will Zalatoris, who nevertheless provided the show in the wind of the afternoon!

The Blues distanced

Brothers Rasmus et Nicolai Hojgaard are the only Europeans in the top 10, alongside the Scot Ewen Ferguson. And it was not the four Frenchmen who made an exception, even if this tournament has often smiled on the Habs. Matthew Pavon remains in the cut race with his card of 72 (+2), while he was in par after sixteen holes! The tricolor number one Victor Perez (+4) also ended badly with a triple-bogey on hole number 9, trapped by a deep bunker pot typical of British links (just like Matthew Fitzpatrick…). Julian Warrior (+4) and especially Antoine Rozner (+8) struggled all day. Far from the three places at The Open promised to the first members of the top 10 not already qualified for St. Andrews. We hope for better performances from our six French representatives who are currently competing in the Barbasol Championship in the United States… even Blues competing in the Vaudreuil Golf Challenge on the Challenge Tour !
