Cameron Smith wins the British Open, his first Major

It was an ideal day for Cameron Smith and here is the 28-year-old Australian with a first Major. On Sunday, he erased a four-stroke deficit from Rory McIlroy and Viktor Hovland on the evening of the third round to win the 150th British Open at the prestigious St. Andrews course.

Smith, 6th in the world and already winner of the Players Championship in March, was the author of a monumental charge on the last nine holes to return a card of -8 this Sunday, with in particular five consecutive birdies from 10 to 14 and a par saved in a sublime way at 17 (putter approach, around the bunker).

Smith won with a -20 in total ahead of Cameron Young (-19), who came to shake him in extremis with an eagle on the 18th, and Rory McIlroy (-18), while Viktor Hovland, co-leader Saturday evening, did not hold the pressure (+2).
