Bundesliga: Christopher Nkunku named player of the year by German journalists

Individual awards follow one another for Christopher Nkunku. After being named player of the season 2021/22 in the Bundesliga by his peers, the former Parisian was elected player of the year 2022 by the vote of 700 German journalists. He finished ahead of Robert Lewandowski, double winner of this award transferred from Bayern to Barcelona this summer, and Kevin Trapp. Nkunku is the second Frenchman to put his name on the list of winners of this trophy after Franck Ribéry, winner in 2008.

“I am very honored and I know how to fully appreciate such an award. Above all, I must thank my team, my coach and all the collaborators. Without their support, it would have been impossible to achieve such a season. I am now looking forward, ”commented the Leipzig player in the Kicker press release.

Author of 20 goals and 13 assists in 34 games, the French international (six selections) recently extended his contract with Leipzig until 2026. “For me, it was natural to renew my contract with RB Leipzig. I don’t consider my job done here either. This is why I have no intention of leaving the club next year,” he explained at a press conference. Something to calm his courtiers.
