Boy was bitten by a jaguar after trying to enter his shelter at the León Zoo

And 14-year-old boy was injured after he crossed the barriers of protection of the Jaguar shelter at the Leon Zoo (zooleon), Guanajuato. The minor is out of danger and was treated immediately.

The events occurred on the afternoon of this Saturday, July 23, around 2:00 p.m., according to local media.

The minor, originally from the municipality of Irapuato, identified as José “N”, suffered an injury to his left ankle, caused by the felineafter he got very close to the cage, supposedly to take a picture with him.

Due to the above, the Zoo reported in a statement that the mishap occurred because the minor approached the jaguar shelter despite the warning signs.

Supposedly, he would have put his foot between the bars of the place when suddenly one of the jaguars bit him, causing injuries to his foot and making him lose tennis, the same with which he played for a while.

“It is important to mention that there is signage not to violate the security barriersthis to safeguard the integrity and security of our visitors, as well as the fauna collection of the Zooleón”.

The minor would have been treated by paramedics from the Red Cross who later transferred him to a hospital, where he re-reported that his health was stable.

Zooleón added that what happened does not put the teenager at risk and that they offered their support to the family and that they are in contact with the parties involved in the events.

Environmental enrichment contemplates, in accordance with Sedema, strategies and activities to promote in specimens of wild fauna under human care a natural behavior through physical and mental challenges. Likewise, this is in charge of the General Directorate of Zoos and Conservation of Wild Fauna.

This program is applied in the three zoos of Mexico City and consists of different activities, depending on species, age, physiological state, diet, shelter, and behavior. Likewise, it has the objective of promoting environmental conditions and stimuli that promote natural behavior, through physical and mental challenges such as foraging, exploration, manipulation of objects and the use of the senses, among others, in order to promote animal welfare.

To the felines that arrived at Chapultepec Zooafter being rescued by the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (teacher), they will be followed up so that they can heal the injuries and affectations that they could present due to the situation of violence and abandonment of those who were victims in Ajusco for Black Jaguar – White Tiger.
