Bordes-Uchentein. Medieval day: back to the Middle Ages

After two years of a pandemic, the hard work of the members of the Heritage, Art and Culture Association of Bordes-Uchentein will finally be rewarded. The Medieval Day is on the launch pad. The event will take place on Saturday July 16 in Ourjout, commune of Bordes-Uchentein, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

On the program of the festivities, the Compagnons de Simon will pitch their camp in the meadow located at the exit of Ourjout, in the direction of Aulignac. This camp will offer visitors several workshops. Among them, illumination, hygiene in the Middle Ages, à la carte weaving, demonstration and making of a rope, medieval archery and, for the pitchouns, activities in a mini-camp.

Children will be able to follow the knight’s journey, which will end with a knighting in good and due form. It will also be possible to learn all about falconry or learn about goat milking.

For history and art buffs, a conference visit to the church of Ourjout, its magnificent murals and its beautiful restored facades is organized at 3 p.m. It will be provided by Emmanuel Garland, doctor in art history and specialist in Pyrenean medieval wall paintings. The tavern will allow you to eat (sandwiches and drinks).

The day will end with the drawing of a raffle where entries to the six tourist sites of Ariège (Château de Foix, palace of the bishops of Saint-Lizier, park of Prehistory, caves of Mas-d’Azil, Niaux and Bédeillac) will be put into play, as will sledding, mountain kart and half a day at the mountain bike park in Guzet or an all-inclusive formula at the Couserans aquatic center.

Summer visits on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays have resumed from 3 to 6 p.m. and will end with European Heritage Days (September 17 and 18).
