Belgian Super Cup: Club Brugge and La Gantoise kick off the season in Belgium

The Belgian Supercup traditionally opposes the defending champion and the winner of the Belgian Cup (or the runner-up in the event of a double). The duel takes place each time on the lawn of the team that won the championship. Last season, the Bruggeois pocketed a third consecutive title, the 18th in the history of the Blauw en Zwart.

For their part, the Buffalos lifted the Croky Cup after beating Anderlecht in the final after penalties. The Ghent team was thus able to fill its trophy cabinet with a fourth national cup. Since then, Club Brugge has changed coach, Carl Hoefkens, a former member of the house, succeeding Alfred Schreuder, who left for Ajax Amsterdam. Hein Vanhaezebrouck is still on the Ghent bench. The two teams will not approach this Sunday meeting in the same way.

Where Bruges can count on an almost full squad, with the exception of the absences of Mats Rits (injured) and Stanley Nsoki (suspended), La Gantoise will have to deal with many injuries, including Julien De Sart, Vadis Odjija or Sven Kums again. With 16 victories, Club Brugge is the team that has won the Belgian Super Cup the most times, ahead of Anderlecht, winners 13 times. During the last edition, the people of Bruges won 3-2 against Genk, runners-up to the Blauw en Zwart in the league, in addition to winning the Belgian Cup.
