The Swiss men’s team will meet Austria in the second round of pre-qualifying for Euro 2025. They will also face Poland and Croatia in group B.
Switzerland qualified for this 2nd round by finishing among the best runners-up in the 1st round, during which they were overtaken by Austria in Pool A. Coach Ilias Papatheodorou’s team won 4 of their 6 matches ( a victory and a defeat against Austria).
The Helvetians will host Austria on Thursday August 25 during the first day, while a trip to Croatia is planned 3 days later. They will visit Poland on November 10 and Austria on November 13, before hosting Croatia and Poland on February 23 and 26.
A single ticket
Thirteenth in the FIBA rankings and quarter-finalists of the last World Cup, Poland is the favorite of this group A. Croatia is ranked 21st in the world, while Switzerland and Austria are 60th and 61st respectively.
Only the winners of the three groups of this 2nd round will win their ticket for the “real” qualifications of Euro 2025. The other teams will benefit from a last chance during a 3rd pre-qualifying round.
