Baseball in Zülpich: Eagles formulate promotion as a clear season goal

Things are going very well for the Zülpich Eagles in the district league so far this season. After five games, coach Fabian Schild’s team is second in the table with four wins and one loss.

This Saturday, July 9, 3 p.m., the penultimate home game of the season is on at Naby Field in Niederelvenich, against the Neunkirchen Nightmares II. However, since the team has lost its two previous games and is therefore bottom of the table, the Zülpichern are preparing no sleepless nights beforehand.

Zülpich Eagles: All eyes are on August 21st

“The Neunkircheners are the only team we haven’t played against yet. That’s why we’re relatively bad at assessing them,” says Fabian Schild. The two defeats of the Nightmares are not very meaningful. “That’s why we’re all the more excited.”

But the coach isn’t worried: “We’re well-manned and we’re in good rhythm. If we work in a concentrated and focused manner and play cleverly, we’ll play well against Neunkirchen.” He formulates the Eagles’ goal quite clearly: they want to get promoted.

Only the Wesseling Vermins II stand in the way at the moment. In Wesseling, the season opener on April 30th saw a 5:8 defeat. All eyes are therefore on August 21st. The home game against Wesseling, originally scheduled for July 2nd, was moved to this date. “The decision will probably come down to that day,” says Schild.

The Zülpich Eagles are a different team compared to the start of the season. “After Pentecost, our squad has grown immensely. We have completely different options now.” And yet the top game is still a long way off. Finally, after the Neunkirchen match, there are two more away games, in Jülich and Bonn.
