ATP – WTA > Murray: “Before working with Amélie Mauresmo, I only thought about my own career”

Present this Saturday at a press conference on the ATP 500 in Washington where he also announced that he was going to donate all of his prize money to UNICEF to help Ukrainian children victims of the war, Andy Murray was also questioned about his commitment to defending the cause of women.

And according to the Scot, it was after collaborating with Amélie Mauresmo (from 2014 to 2016) that he really became aware of this important subject for him.

“There are certain themes and topics that have been important to me over the course of my career, and I’ve felt personally keen on advocating for women. It really started when I started working with Amelie Mauresmo. Before that, to be perfectly honest, I didn’t think about it. I only thought about my own career and focused on it and my tennis. When I started working with Amélie, I saw the way she was treated, so I started asking more questions, especially my mother, on this subject.. She has coached tennis in a male dominated sport for her entire life. I asked her what challenges she had faced. I obviously spoke to Amélie about this. »
