ATP > Thiem: “In my opinion, it’s not very fun to play against Alcaraz”

Away from the courts for long months between 2021 and 2022 due to a right wrist injury, Dominic Thiem watched from afar several extremely talented young players settle at the top of the ATP rankings. The Austrian insists on two names in particular.

“I played against Jannik Sinner in an exhibition and trained with him in many tournaments, so I knew he was coming to the top and he was good. It’s been around for a while and it’ll probably be even higher soon. I knew Carlos Alcaraz, but he made the big breakthrough when I wasn’t there. But I saw him a lot because he won Umag, then he played in Kitzbühel and he lost against an Austrian [Alexander Erler] and I saw this whole game. You could see it wouldn’t take long for him to break through. You could see he was going to be in the Top 10. Hopefully I play them soon because it’s always exciting to face new players because I’ve played most of the guys before and I know them pretty well. In my opinion, it’s not that fun to play against Alcaraz. It must be really hard! »underlined the winner of the US Open 2020 in an interview with the ATP.
