Minister of SOEs, Erick Thohir, speaks to the media after the opening ceremony of the 2022 ASEAN Para Games at Manahan Stadium, Surakarta, July 30, 2022.

BOLASPORT.COM – The Minister of SOEs, Erick Thohir, appreciated the courage of the City of Solo to bring Indonesia’s name as the host of the 2022 ASEAN Para Games.

The biggest disability sports event in Southeast Asia, the 2022 ASEAN Para Games, was officially opened at the Manahan Stadium, Solo on Saturday (30/7/2022) night WIB.

This is the second chance for Indonesia, especially the city of Solo, to host the ASEAN Para Games since the last time was in 2011.

In this second event, the City of Solo faced a big challenge because the preparation time was quite short, which was only about six months.

Few countries dare to take the opportunity to host the ASEAN Para Games.

Usually, countries that host the SEA Games will automatically host the ASEAN Para Games.

Vietnam actually got the mandate to host the 2022 ASEAN Para Games, but they chose to only hold the SEA Games.

The ASEAN Para Games event was also canceled in 2020 where the Philippines became the host due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
