Arthur Theate: “I can’t wait to discover the European Cup”

Arthur Theate arrived safely at Stade Rennais, and had the opportunity to visit the club’s facilities, participate in his first training session, and answer questions from the official club channel.

The player who passed through the youngsters of Genk Standard then Ostend and Bologna among the professionals, explained that he felt very good and was happy with his arrival in Brittany: “I’m happy to be here, I feel good and ready, so we’re going to give our all on the pitch. I resumed preparation with Bologna, and after with the national team, and then again with Bologna. I feel ready, we had a big internship in the mountains in Italy, and here I am“.

Theate explained his choice to join Stade Rennais: “Rennes is a big club in France, so there you go, I am automatically proud, for the work that I try to provide on a daily basis with my entourage, my family, etc. And then the excitement, of saying are we going to get there, and once I found out that I was going to Rennes, I was very excited, to discover the training center, my teammates, the staff, and the atmosphere of the stadium and the supporters“.

Stade Rennais is a club that Arthur Theate already knows quite well: “Stade Rennais is already Brittany, that’s inevitable. It’s a club that wants to grow, we all see it, which only grows and settles at the top of the rankings in France. The European Cup matches I watched them, since there are also Jeremy [Doku] who plays in selection with me. When I can watch it it is with pleasure. Rennes, Brittany, football, a real club inspires me and then I hope for a very warm atmosphere at the stadium. I’m going to discover Ligue 1, which is a big championship with great players, and then that’s also what attracts you in the end. Because I played, last year in Serie A, another championship, the Pro League and then now Ligue 1″.

The former Bolognese is not afraid of adapting to Ligue 1, and is eager to discover it: “It’s going to be new for me, it’s a league I watch more than the Bundesliga, maybe because I can understand the commentators. But here it is, it’s an attractive championship, as I said I have a lot of acquaintances who have played there. So I can’t wait to find out, I’ve only been told well about the championship, and then another type of game, that’s going to make me happy“.

The young Belgian was obviously also motivated by Rennes’ participation in the next edition of the Europa League: “For me it was a personal project to play in a European Cup. When you’re young, it’s the most interesting thing for a player. It was not compulsory, but it is sure that the sporting aspect and the European Cup play a role here in Rennes. So there you go, I’m also really looking forward to discovering the European Cup“.
