The fans of STS Sanok have been experiencing an amazing rollercoaster in recent weeks. On Friday, the club announced that it would not play in the Polish Hockey League for financial reasons, and today the situation has changed dramatically!
After the actions of the Sanok City Hall, headed by the mayor Tomasz Matuszewski, it was possible to obtain sponsors guaranteeing the required minimum budget to play in the Polish Hockey League in the 2022/23 season.
Let us remind you that the situation of Sanok became very complicated right after a fire broke out in the production halls of Ciarko, the main sponsor of STS Sanok. The losses are huge and amount to PLN 25 million. Therefore, Ryszard Ziarko, the owner of the Ciarko company, decided to limit the sponsorship of the Sanok club.
Local activists and local government officials have conducted a series of talks with many potential sponsors in recent weeks. In recent days, we have managed to obtain amounts that allowed us to ensure the minimum budget required during the Polish Hockey League licensing process.
– It turned out that fighting to the end and persistence brings effects not only on the pitch, but also in the sports business. I don’t like to lose, so I didn’t lay down my arms completely. That is why today, dear fans, fans of hockey, I would like to inform you that in recent days I have spent a lot of time acquiring business partners to finance our team’s performances at the highest level of the tournament – says Tomasz Matuszewskimayor of Sanok.
– These were difficult moments, caused by sending a message by the club, and such as today. He informs all hockey fans that, however, the team from Sanok, STS Sanok, remains in the game in the highest division of the Polish Hockey League. After many efforts and talks, it was possible to obtain funds that will enable STS Sanok to play in Ekstraliga next season. I would like to thank everyone who supported my efforts and contributed to collecting funds for the functioning of our team in the next season – added the mayor in a press release added on social media.
