No bunch sprint, but Christophe Laporte’s failure resulted in a new victory for Jumbo-Visma in this Tour de France. Wout van Aert didn’t think about sprinting today and according to our analyst Michel Wuyts there was a clear reason for that. “If Van Aert had wanted it, he would have won here. It once again points to the team spirit at Jumbo-Visma that Wout mainly focused on safely bringing in yellow jersey Vingegaard. Sprinting would have been ‘wasted’ powers for him. Wout wants to show his versatility again in the time trial tomorrow. He definitely wants to win it.”
Wuyts mainly put feathers on the hat of stage winner Laporte himself, the first Frenchman to triumph in this Tour. “A salute to Laporte, who has a history as a sprinter and who can handle such a solo. The greatest credit for this victory goes to himself.”
