The seaplane crashed into a shallow part of the lake and Byron, his father-in-law and his wife’s brother were able to access the plane and pull the injured pilot ashore with their joint efforts, reported Canadian French-language sports network RDS.
“A quiet morning fishing turned into a rescue for a man who crashed his seaplane in the lake a few meters away from us,” Byron’s wife’s brother Nils Leiblond posted on Facebook.
However, Byron recognized the real hero as a jet skier (Serge Leibel) who saved the seaplane pilot.
The Montreal Canadiens forward recalls Leibel riding a jet ski on the lake and being the first to see the seaplane go down. Leibel acted heroically as he pulled the pilot from the cockpit and then Byron rushed to aid in the rescue.
“I want you all to know that the pilot was saved by a jet skier and should be recognized as a hero,” Byron said on Twitter.
“My father-in-law, my wife’s brother and I helped in the rescue, as well as many other people around who were on the shore. A jet skier is a hero.” added Byron.
