“An interesting player for the future”

At the beginning of the month, the TAGBLATT reported that an Estonian talent was in Tübingen for a trial session. Now the Tigers have signed 17-year-old Gerrit Lehe. He is initially coming for a year, but the cooperation is planned for a longer period of time, according to a Tigers statement. The 1.98 meter tall youngster can play positions 2 to 4. The Tigers thus prevailed against other competitors who were also interested in Lehe. “I chose the Tigers because I can work here under one of the best coaches in the German youth field,” the Tigers quote him as saying.

Tigers coach Daniel Jansson already focused on Lehe when he was in Ulm. “Gerrit is a young Estonian international who has been waiting for a chance in Germany or any other country in Europe for quite some time. Of course, the last two years with the corona pandemic have made this project more difficult,” says Jansson.

Lehe is another “project” for the Tigers coach, as he puts it: “Gerrit is still very young, but with his height of 1.98 meters and his physique, which is good for his age, he can handle the training sessions. Primary assignments are planned in the second team, theoretically he can still be used in the youth. If he makes the leap to the active squad, we’ll have an interesting player for the future in Tübingen.”

Lehe is the Tigers’ second player from Estonia after Erki Kivinukk, who played for Tübingen in the 2004/2005 season. Most recently, he played for the Audentes U20 team in his home country. In 15 games, he had 11.6 points and 6.6 rebounds. From a distance he hit 38.6 percent of his throws. Before he goes to Tübingen, Lehe is on 6./7. August qualifying for the U17 European Championship in 3×3 basketball in Szolnok, Hungary. The school can continue to complete Lehe online. / Bild: Andre Evestus
