Nothing will happen with Jannik Sinner’s first appearance at the traditional ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg. On Thursday evening, the sextner announced that he would not be taking part due to an injury.

“After consultation with my team, we have come to the decision that I will not play in Hamburg,” the Sextner is quoted as saying from the German tournament. The reason given by the 20-year-old was an injury sustained against Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon quarter-finals. “I twisted my ankle slightly. As a preventive measure, the best thing is to take a little more time before I play in Umag again,” says Sinner. He would have been happy to perform in Hamburg because it is a city that he likes very much.

It is therefore clear that Sinner will not defend the 500 world ranking points from last year’s win at the tournament in Washington. Unless he asks the organizers in the US capital for a wildcard. However, that is not very likely, especially since the Citi Open will take place from July 30th to August 7th, directly after the ATP 250 clay court tournament in Umag (July 22nd to 31st).
