Alexander Valverde, a Movistar cyclist, and a companion who was riding with him in Alcantarilla (Murcia) were hit by a car that fled between Javalí Viejo and Alcantarilla. The vehicle hit Valverde and another cyclist, his teammate. Neither the driver nor the passenger car could be identified. The 42-year-old cyclist from Murcia was treated on the spot by the ambulance paramedics and later transferred to the Virgen de La Arrixaca University General Hospital.
