In the battle for Quinten Timber, Ajax has not left itself completely untouched. The midfielder is about to to sign a multi-year contract with Feyenoord, but was also able to return to Amsterdam. The Telegraph writes, after all, that Ajax reported last-minute for the services of the former Ajax player.
On Wednesday it already came out that Timber will in principle continue his career at Feyenoord. He still has to undergo his medical examination, but no problems are expected in advance. Feyenoord showed that they would like the player and therefore paid a hefty transfer fee. There is talk of a fixed transfer fee of 8.5 million euros, which can increase to a final amount of no less than ten million euros.
The high transfer amount is not completely out of the blue. After all, the newspaper writes on Thursday that the number of foreign clubs that reported for Timber could not be counted on one hand. Moreover, Ajax and PSV – the rest of the traditional top three in the Netherlands – also knocked on the door. Despite the interest from outside Rotterdam, Timber ultimately only wanted to sign there.
Thus, at the age of 21, the all-rounder does not opt for the money. According to his older brother Christopher, the international of the Dutch Juniors could earn more elsewhere, but goes for the sporty picture. “His older brother Christopher, who supervises the twins, does not want to mention numbers but confirms that even more was possible elsewhere,” they write.
Timber returns to old nest
Timber thus returns to the old nest. He was active in Feyenoord’s youth academy until 2014, after which he moved to Ajax together with twin brother Jurriën. He stayed there for seven years, after which he chose to move to FC Utrecht. In retrospect, that choice turned out to be the right one, because after one season he – led by Arne Slot – gets the chance in the top of the Eredivisie.
