The legendary German goalkeeper, who made 61 appearances for the national team and won silver and bronze at the World Cup, is enjoying his sporting retirement in Bavaria near Lake Starnberg. But it’s not exactly idyllic in recent days.
Neighbor disputes are to blame. The winner of the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund from the 2001/02 season did not like the fact that the neighbor built a new garage, which allegedly encroached on his property. In addition, it obstructed his view of the picturesque lake.
The former Schalke or Arsenal goalkeeper ran out of patience and decided to take justice into his own hands instead of a lengthy solution to the situation through the authorities. He grabbed a chainsaw and cut several roof beams on the garage. Before that, he tried to disconnect the security cameras so that the neighbor would not know who caused the damage, but he did not succeed, and so the victim had only evidence.
However, this is not the only transgression of the fifty-two-year-old native of Essen. In May of last year, he had to quit as Hertha Berlin manager because of a racist message addressed to black player Dennis Aoga.
