John Holinger, one of the pioneers of in-depth basketball statistics who also worked for the Grizzlies club in Memphis for several years, spoke with NBA contract expert Neith Duncan on Wednesday about NBA basketball players who could agree with their teams to extend a veteran contract.

Such an extension of the contract may be earned by basketball players who are then fulfilling a pre-existing contract of at least three seasons. The date of conclusion of the new contract must be two years after the previous contract. However, the new contract may not exceed five years, including the seasons provided for in the existing contract.

“Kristaps Porziņģis is another Wizards basketball player who meets the terms of the contract extension,” said Dankans. “If he starts the season pretty well, I can even imagine it would happen. He’s played very well in Washington.”

“He played very well at the end of last season,” Holinger agreed with his colleague. “Shockingly good!”

“I don’t think it would happen in the summer. But if Washington starts the season pretty well – if he [Porziņģis] is healthy if Bradley Bill returns and looks good, “said Duncan.

Porziņģis will earn 33.8 million US dollars before taxes next season. He may also continue his existing contractual obligations in 2023/2024. in the season when he has the option to agree to a salary of $ 36 million.

As it will be six months since the Mavericks and Wizards swap for Porziņģis to be eligible to renew his contract with the Washington club, the two teams can agree to extend the contract for an additional three seasons from August 11. The Wizards unit could offer Porziņģi no more than $ 130.7 million before taxes.

Washington’s Wizards won 35 games last season, finishing 12th at the Eastern Conference. Porziņģis averaged 22.1 points per game in 17 games and collected 8.8 rebounds.
