With the wind in the mountains instead. Denmark prepares for first stages of Tour de France / Article

The Tour de France will start with a 13-kilometer start with a separate start, the distance in the Danish capital will be close to the most famous places in Copenhagen. A much more challenging challenge awaits participants on Saturday, when 199 kilometers will have to be measured along coastal roads, as well as crossing the bridge over the Great Belt at the end of the distance. On days of strong winds, trucks are even banned from driving on the 18-kilometer bridge, so the weather can be a serious challenge for cyclists.

The organizers do not hide that they are aware of the flat terrain of the Danish landscape, so the participants of the “Tour de France” will have to cover almost one and a half kilometers by the sea. The test with the wind will maintain a constant intrigue in the head of the concrete, which in turn will increase the interest of the spectators.

The relatively easiest section on Sunday, July 3, will be scenic roads, with organizers wanting to show the most attractive sights of Denmark on television, while cyclists will still have to keep the wind in mind. Never before has the Tour de France started so far north.

Denmark is a country of everyday cyclists, so the organizers count on around one million spectators in the first three stages. Christian Prudom, director of the Tour de France, emphasized that the important role of cycling in the Nordic countries was one of the reasons why Denmark was chosen to start the race.

Toms Skujins for the first holiday “Tour de France”

The organization of the first three stages in Denmark will provide participants with an additional holiday on 4 July to move to the start of the fourth stage in Dinkerk, in the north-east of France. Skujiņš said in a conversation with Latvijas Radio before the fifth start of his career in the “Tour de France” that the day of the crossing will still be a bit of a rest, allowing him to gain strength before the competition continues. Until the finish in the Champs Elysées, cyclists will be free for the next two Mondays.

Slovenians Tadeja Pogachar is considered to be the main favorite of the competition, who will claim to win the third “Tour de France” in a row. However, the 3,328 kilometers spread over 21 stages will inevitably lead to many different turns that could affect the fight for victory in the overall standings.

On the day the men finish in the Champs Elysées, the first “Tour de France” for women will start at the Eiffel Tower, but the ladies’ tour will be less ambitious and will end on the last day of July after eight stages.
