What can you expect today?

  • In France, the first round of elections is for the Assemblée Nationale, the French House of Representatives. Macron’s Renaissance party is doing well in the polls, but is being chased by a new coalition of five left-wing parties. Read more about it here.
  • The National Monument Camp Vught commemorates the children’s transport in 1943. Nearly 1,300 Jewish children were sent by the Nazis to the Sobibor extermination camp. A small group was deported to Auschwitz.
  • From 1 pm Max Verstappen will compete in Baku for the win at the Grand Prix of Azerbaijan. Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc is on pole, Verstappen starts from P3. You can follow the race via a live blog on NOS.nl.
  • It is the last day of the tennis tournament in Rosmalen: the final will be for the women (Sabalenka-Aleksandrova) from 12 noon and for the men from approximately 2.45 pm. In the American state of Idaho, 31 right-wing extremists have been arrested for wanting to disrupt a pride event in the city of Coeur d’Alene, according to the police. They wore protective clothing and balaclavas. They also had shields and a smoke grenade with them.

Singer Anouk married her fiancé Dominique Schemmekes during her concert in The Hague. The two gave each other the yes on stage on the Malieveld, in front of the approximately 40,000 visitors to the concert. A few thousand more people watched via a live stream on Instagram.
