UEFA also apologizes for chaotic Champions League final

UEFA has apologized for the chaotic run-up to the Champions League final.

The final battle did not start at 9 p.m. as planned, because it was unsettled around the stadium in Paris. At the entrance, people with fake tickets, according to UEFA, climbed over the fences. Liverpool fans with a valid ticket could not enter the stadium. During the unrest, the police used tear gas and pepper spray. In total, more than 200 people were injured.

“No football fan should end up in that situation and it shouldn’t happen again,” UEFA said in a statement on its website.

“UEFA offers its sincere apologies to all spectators who witnessed or witnessed terrifying and disturbing events leading up to the Champions League final on an evening that should have been a celebration of European club football.”
