Tyus Jones, new target of the Washington Wizards

The Washington Wizards are increasingly expanding the list of candidates to fill their point guard position. After turning their attention to Monte Morris, the Cubans have their eye on Tyus Jones, who will soon be an unrestricted free agent. The DC franchise has an exception mid-level standard that leaves them with just over 10 million to sign a free agent. Just the approximate price that Jones could end up receiving in the market.

Beyond that, right now the Wizards could fulfill one of the point guard’s main demands: being a starter. Right now Washington has Ish Smith as its only point guard on the roster, and his contract isn’t guaranteed for next season. For this reason, they are looking for a veteran who can cover that gap with guarantees and who will surely end up starting in the starting five in the absence of rumors that point to larger movements.

The Memphis Grizzlies enter free agency knowing how difficult it will be to retain Jones without being able to offer him a starting job. Despite being a tremendously important player in Taylor Jenkins’ plans, Ja Morant and Desmond Bane already monopolize the outside lane. This largely explains why the Grizzlies moved in the draft to get Kennedy Chandler, one of the best point guards in the college season who ended up falling to the 38th pick.
