Titanes became champion of the Professional Basketball League again

This Monday the final of the Professional Basketball League was held where, for the sixth consecutive time, Titanes de Barranquilla was crowned champion with an outstanding campaign, since he finished undefeated, of 17 games he won them all.

For this year’s season, Cafeteros was one of the favorites for the title, thus threatening the power of the Atlanticenses who responded with an accurate score: 3-0. It should be noted that, since the team was created in 2018, it has never lost a final, and played every season.

Keep in mind that few teams on the continent have these numbers, with this, Titanes de Barranquilla became one of the most prestigious dynasties in Colombian basketball. In the case of Cafeteros, it is the first time they have reached a final.

For this third episode, Titanes de Barranquilla did not have the Panamanian Michael Hicks by direct expulsion in the previous match, after starring in a dispute against Hector ‘Mickey’ Díaz, a star of Cafeteros who also missed this match.

“In the middle of the third quarter, after a meeting between Héctor ‘Mickey’ Díaz and Michael Hicks, both players were sent off. Later, the rebounding strength of Titanes, with Tony Trocha, Ernesto Oglivie and Soren De Luque, brought out their power and their defense lengthened the lead: 61-50″, they reported from the Division.

Tomás Díaz’s team came out looking for victory from the first minute of the match. At the break they left with an eight-point lead, 48 to 40, and after the first two quarters it was already predicted that the championship would once again stay in the capital of the Atlantic.

For their part, the Cafeteros reacted and attacked in the third quarter of Monday’s game. Andrés Ibargüen, who was the coffee figure, fought so that the score did not go too far. The difference, ephemeral as so often in basketball, disappeared. Fernando Lucena’s triples put Cafeteros back in the game and the last quarter was a head to head.

Those from Armenia came back and touched the feat. They came to have a seven-point lead, but did not close the match. And Titans struck and secured their title at the last minute. In his last possession, with a triple by Heissler Guillent, who has been classified as the best player of the season, Titanes de Barranquilla became champion again.

“We have been winning since the entire series, a great team effort and we are happy”Guillent said in an interview for Win Sports on Monday.

A few days ago, prior to the last game of the Basketball League final, Andrés Ibargüen commented that: “The truth is that there is no tranquility. We won’t be calm until we win the third game”.
