The men’s U18 confirmed its squad for FIBA ​​Americas

The countdown has begun for the U18 Men’s National Team, which has everything ready to go for World Cup qualification. In the last few hours, the coaching staff headed by Herman Mandole announced the squad that will travel to Tijuana, Mexico to represent our country in the category’s FIBA ​​Americas, to be played from June 6 to 12. The boys, who came from being South American runners-up in March, will look for one of the four places for the U19 World Cup next year. The tournament will be made up of eight teams: three classified from South America: Argentina, Brazil and Ecuador; three CentroBasket qualifiers: Puerto Rico, Mexico and the Dominican Republic, plus the United States and Canada.

The list in question includes seven of the twelve players who won the silver medal in Caracas this year. The group is joined by four players from abroad, who could not be in the South American due to international commitments with their teams. In addition, there will be Máximo Lomello, from Atenas de Córdoba. Argentina presents a squad with all its members above 1.90 and an average height of 2m, including eight players above said barrier. Five members work abroad and three are class 2005, so they will give a year ahead of the rest of the competition.

“The preparation was good, it’s a shame that we had some injuries to players who are going to arrive with just enough to the tournament, and that forced us to change the team’s scheme a bit. It is to highlight that we go back to go with a team with an average of two meters , which is something very important. We are going to try to compete to qualify for next year’s World Cup.”explained Mandole, head coach of the team that will embark on its trip to Mexican lands next Friday night.

In the continental competition, Argentina will integrate Group A together with Mexico, Canada and Brazil. The debut will be on Monday 06/06 at 10 pm, time in our country, against Brazil, in the rematch of the last South American final. On Tuesday 06/07, also at 10 p.m., they will face Canada and the next day they will close the regular phase against Mexico, although it will be on Thursday in our country, since the match is scheduled for 00:30 a.m., Argentine time. Group B will be made up of the United States, Ecuador, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. After a regular phase of three games, everyone will access the quarterfinals that will be played on Friday. The winners of this cross will advance to the semis and will also get their ticket to the U19 World Cup next year.
