The international rower Esther Briz Zamorano, best athlete 2021 of the Helios Swimming Center

The Helios Swimming Center has celebrated its traditional Sports Festival 2022 in the hotel complex Aura Restaurante. This event aims to rrecognize and reward the efforts of the best athletes from the previous season.

Among the 17 candidates presented Esther Briz Zamorano has been chosen as the Best Athlete 2021, who has received the ‘Colossus of Rhodes’‘, a corporeal expression of the “god of the sun” in Greek mythology and a representative symbol of the heliophile sport.

At an international level, Esther was crowned Sea Rowing World Champion (C2xMix), Beach Sprints World Champion (C2xMix) and Sea Rowing Spanish Champion (C2xMix). She also finished fourth in the European U23W1X. And with the team from Stanford University in California, where she is studying, she finished in first position in the ‘Head of the Charles Regatta’ (college championship 8+), was second in the university championship league (NCAA women’s first varsity 8+) and first in C2xMix and second for teams in the Principe Alberto II regatta.

Also, athletes like Mary Eizaguerrichess, and Alexander Jurado, rowing, defended the blue kit in international competitions. In Spanish championships they have managed to get on the podium Raul Usonfrom the weightlifting section; Joane Buldain, from jJudo; Y Marchos Echevarríaswimming.

Likewise, during the gala a special mention was made to those Helios athletes who achieved great achievements in national competitionsspecifically to valentina sundayswimming; Gonzalo Montagud; rowing and Julia Martinez and Alex Asensiocanoeing both.
