The candidacy presented by Movistar Students has been discarded for not being able to guarantee, as established in the Circular of Conditions, the full availability of the facility offered, the Wizink Center.

COMMUNICATION AREA FEB

Once the extraordinary period of 48 hours granted to Movistar Students for the clarification of some aspects of its candidacy has ended and, after verifying that it could not guarantee the full availability of the installation as established in the Circular of Conditions, the Executive Commission of the Spanish Federation of Basketball has unanimously decided that the Final Four of the LEB Gold League will be played in the town of Girona.

In this way, the promotion phase will take place on the central court of the Pavelló Girona Fontajau next June 18 and 19 and in it the second place for sports promotion to the Endesa League will be at stake for the 2022/2022 season. 2. 3.

An appointment that already has three of its four classified teams and that will face, on Saturday afternoon, Movistar Estudiantes with Zunder Palencia, as well as Bàsquet Girona with the winner of the series -still at stake- between ICG Força Lleida and Cáceres P. Humanity (2-2).

The two teams that manage to overcome the semifinal round will face each other on Sunday in a single match in a Final that will determine the name of the team that achieves second place for promotion to the Endesa League together with Covirán Granada, who achieved theirs as champion of League on the night of May 13.

Clarification on the candidacy of Movistar Students

Given the proliferation of interested and unverified information that has taken place in recent days, the Executive Commission of the FEB wishes to clarify that the process has been carried out with total transparency and without allowing the pressures exerted from various areas to affect it. So much so that, even last Monday, an extraordinary period of 48 hours was granted to Movistar Students to document the availability of the facility that they themselves offered as a venue, the Wizink Center. After the communications maintained with all the parties involved, it became clear that only one of the four combinations of the ACB PlayOff that could occur during the next few days was this condition fulfilled.
Exceptionally, the Executive Commission has delayed its decision more than it did in the edition of the Final Four held in Bilbao in the 2018/19 season (from 18 to 10 days before the event) in response to the request of Movistar Students, and always under the premise of deciding on a specific candidacy once it was clear that both complied with the provisions of the conditions sent to the clubs on April 27, available to anyone who wished to consult them on the FEB website. And, unfortunately, after receiving the response from Movistar Estudiantes regarding the full and unconditional unavailability of the Wizink Center, and the ratification of the exclusive use of the facility on match days by the ACB, it has been concluded that Movistar’s candidacy Students did not comply with the provisions of the Circular issued by the FEB and, consequently, could not opt to host the Final Four of the LEB Gold League. In this regard, it should be noted that, in its proposal, Movistar Estudiantes does not reach to never guarantee the availability of the pavilion, but instead proposes to change the dates of the Final Four, which would mean a modification of the sports calendar approved by the Delegated Commission of the FEB, and a comparative grievance for the other candidacy.

Finally, the Executive Commission of the Spanish Basketball Federation condemns the protection and dissemination of information that has not been adjusted to the reality of the process of choosing the venue, and urges the clubs involved in this Final Four to combat the publication of news and opinions that cast shadows on its deliberation and that, consequently, damage the image of the LEB Oro league, harming the interests of all of us who are part of it.
